It was October 2001, I had just gotten my regular physical with blood tests and all and my doctor laid it on the line. "You have got to lose weight." At age 56, 5' 10" and 307 pounds, I had no excuse. Add to that, I was showing signs of Type II diabetes. "Here are some diet plans, try 1800 calories/day for now and see what happens in a few months."
I needed a tool to manage my calorie intake and found HealthFitCounter for my Palm Vx. I also made a key decision. This was not to be a "diet," but a permanent change in eating habits. I began to lose at the rate of 1.5 pounds per week and kept that average for well over a year. I tracked every calorie every day and have never gained one pound between weigh-ins. I now weigh 225 and have fine tuned my average down to 1450 calories. I don't have to take blood pressure medicine any more and there is no sign of diabetes. I have permanently changed my bad eating habits. I still eat what I like, but I am obsessive on counting calories with my HealthFitCounter and I am NOT on a diet.
Thanks for this great tool and the extra years of life!

I started serious weight loss when I got on a large scale to check the corners. (I am a scale technician but usually write software.) I was shocked to see 407! The scale was correct. I saw my Doctor, and was referred to a Weight loss specialist that runs A Unique Way. She wanted me to keep track of calories, fat, salt, and so forth. I am not into writing stuff down. She said to try your website. I did, and purchased the HealthFitCounter. It has been a HUGE help in my weight loss! I take it everywhere and enter items before eating them. It keeps me honest, and well aware of my eating. I HIGHLY recommend it! I plan to get a Pocket PC mainly to use the HealthFitCounter software!

I purchased your PDA version of the software and became educated on healthy eating. After retiring from the service 10 years ago I gained 50 pounds with a lazy lifestyle. Your product has helped me lose 40 and I am on my way to the 50. Thanks.

I got my first issue of the diet facts newsletter, and I'm pleased to receive it.
I got the HealthFitCounter for my Palm just before the Christmas Holidays, and managed to lose 5 pounds while still having a chance to indulge in modest sized but reasonably regular treats. So far, I'm at a net loss of 7 pounds since Dec 23. My goal is a total of 20, so I'm 1/3 of the way there. The discipline of using HealthFitCounter PLUS the fact that I know when it's OK to enjoy a snack makes all the difference.

I was about 230 lbs on January 18, 2002 now I weigh in at around 170 on August 15, 2002 and am trying to just maintain that level. I used the HealthFitCounter software on my Handspring Visor Prism to track my calorie intake (and also started with a MILD workout routine). My goal was to lose about 2 lbs a week... eating about 2000 calories a day. I am a newspaper photographer and eat in restaurants almost everyday (makes it hard to track calories).
I just figured out what meals I liked (spent some time looking for satisfying lower calories meals too) ... figured out the calories per meal.. and stored them in the database. It has worked out very well for me. Thanks for a wonderful and useful program that has helped change my life."

Hi Guys, Just a short note to tell you how pleased my wife and I are with your HealthFitCounter product.
I have elevated triglycerides and the cardiologist told me to cut back on carbohydrates to lower them. Trying to do so proved almost impossible since I had no practical way to keep track of the carbs I was consuming. The only way this was going to work for me was to keep a log.
I tried keeping a log in a small steno pad I purchased, but quickly found the problem to be determining how many carbs a particular food contained. I spent a couple of hours a day just looking up nutritional values on the internet.
Then we discovered your product through a link on "About.com". We ordered two counters - one for me and one for my wife. What a blessing. We received the counters on May 2nd, loaded our personal goals, and were "off to the races".
Between May 3rd and today, July 12th, I have lost 28 pounds; cut my carb consumption from around 900 grams to an average of 137 grams per day; and lowered my triglyceride count from 712 to 153. To say I am pleased with the result would be an understatement. I wholeheartedly recommend your HealthFitCounter to any who wish to monitor their carbohydrate consumption, keep track of the nutritional values of the food they eat or to just lose weight. Its ease of use, small size and pre-progammed food values make it a breeze to use.
Thank you for creating a product that will help all who use it to live a longer and healthier lifestyle. I could not have done it without the HealthFitCounter.
Bobby from Austin, TX - Ph.D.

Double the Calories from Drinks
A study in Obesity Research found that American adults are getting almost twice as many calories from beverages as they did 7 years ago, and all those alcoholic beverages, sodas, fruit drinks and doctored coffees are contributing to the problem of adult obesity. Adults today get 21 percent of their calories from drinks, or about 222 calories a day. The data showed that people today are drinking more soda, fruit juice and alcohol and less whole milk than they were in 1965. Experts agree that calories from liquids don't register with the body the way solid food does.
